You'll Know

You wonder
if you’ll know?

When the hidden
is revealed
will you hear the crash
or the beat of wings?

At the consult
after an MRI
when your specialist
starts by saying
now this looks interesting

Or a meeting with your boss
and that term you can’t forget
through no fault of yours

Or maybe that forever relationship
gets complicated
when the inside out clothes
on the stairs
next to hers
aren’t yours

When the universe flips
and everything goes opposite
you’ll know

~ J. D. Mackenzie

  1. Hi, J.D. I look forward to following your blog during April. And I invite you to read my poems at (Find NaPoWriMo 2010 in the top menu bar) - Greg =)

  2. All those phrases you've put in italics gave my stomach the flip flops. Great poem! -Marie

  3. J.D. this is phenomenal! The line "when the inside out clothes" adds a second layer to the prompt #4 and I agree with Marie that the phrases in italics have major impact. Great work! - Alejandra
